Welcome to the 2017-2018 McCall Family! My name is Julie Choate, and I am honored to serve as the Principal and lead some of the finest "teachers of world-changers" ever! This is my first year in this role, but I am definitely not a stranger to our staff, since I have served as the Assistant Principal since the campus opened in 2008. This year marks the beginning of my 26th year in public education, and it is my passion. It is my firm belief that you will find our school to be one of the finest around. We pride ourselves in maintaining a family feeling toward everyone - students, parents, and community members alike. We decided in the spring of 2008 that we wanted McCall to be the place we would want our personal children to attend, and many do and have, including my own.
Speaking of children, my family is extremely important to me. I have been married to my hubby Bryan Choate for over 23 years, and we have two great kiddos - our son Ben, who is a junior at Aledo High School, and our daughter Brittin, who will be an 8th grader at Aledo Middle school this year. We are active in our church family and with our kids' activities, and we love to get together with friends. I am an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, which I have been since the mid 1970's. I call Brownwood (central Texas) my hometown and graduated from Brownwood High School and Howard Payne University there. I received my Master's degree from Dallas Baptist University.
Please reach out to me, our office staff, or your child's teacher, if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to serve you and your child. Communication is key, and we want to communicate early and often so that messages aren't "lost in translation" between the classroom door and the front door of your house. The teachers are busy teaching during most of the day, so please keep that in mind when waiting for a response. In most cases you will hear back fairly quickly, but not always, depending on the time of day. You can expect a response within 24 hours in almost every case.
In conclusion, our campus theme for this year is "Grace Changes Everything." I found the definition below, and it really spoke to me regarding how we treat each other, no matter what the age. I will need some grace from you as I'm transitioning to this new position, and also as our school has gone from the smallest to the largest elementary in just a few months. I will extend grace, as well, and in that way, we can always keep the main thing the main thing - educating children every day. The last sentence of our student pledge reads, "What beings here changes the world." I believe that with all my heart. Will you join me?
I'm looking forward to a wonderful 2017-2018!
